FARM OVERVIEW
The property. Where? How many acres?
Improvements. What will need to be done so alpacas
can be raised on the property? How long will these
improvements last? Is there room for expansion?
Current operations. What is the business history?
Is this a totally new business? Do you currently raise
or have you in the past raised livestock or crops?
BUSINESS PRODUCTS/SERVICES
The product and service. What products/services will
you offer?
Uses. What can your products/services be used for?
Provisions for alpacas. What are the basic needs and
care to maintain and raise your alpaca
products/services. How easy/hard will your
products/services be to raise?
Pasture and shelters. What type of pastures and
shelters? Layout?
Feed. What do they eat? How will you supply it?
Manure management. How will you clean up and
dispose of manure? Health care. What herd
management and vet care will be needed?
Insurance. What types (livestock, property, liability,
equipment, vehicle)? Where can you get it?
How much will it cost?
Theft/Identification. Will your alpacas be ARI registered
(DNA tested)? Microchipped?
Labor. Who will work in the business? Doing what?
Herd plan. I would recommend a 10 year herd plan.
What is the alpaca lifespan, reproductive lifespan,
gestation? How many alpacas do you plan to
purchase? Sex? Age? Will your herd grow?
When? How?
Business organization. What will be the structure of
your business? Will you be a sole proprietorship,
corporation (S or C), LLC, PLC? Talk with your
accountant or attorney for what’s best for you.
THE MARKET
What is the market for alpacas and their products?
Supply?
Demand?
Price? Alpacas and fleece.
Sales? Who do you plan to sell alpacas and alpaca
products/services to? Why?
MARKETING PLAN
Objective of your promotions. What do you want to
accomplish?
Promotion and advertising. What will you do to promote
alpacas and alpaca products/services? What’s your
initial focus? What’s your long term focus?
Memberships and alliances. What associations will
you join? What do they represent? Why are you
joining them? What alliances have you developed?
